EXCERPT:
Rayne broke free of the tangle of cars and sped-up to head toward the highway and home. Tears formed from both the pain in her skull and the realization that she was forever trapped by genetics that had finally exposed her to the world, and, not unexpectedly, ended what she’d hoped was a promising relationship.
She wanted to scream out her anger and frustration. She wanted to crash into something and shatter it to smithereens. After years of extreme caution, one persistent child ghost succeeded in making her break the first and most important rule her family lived by. She had failed to keep the secret that safeguarded them all. And she had to hurry home to let them know before they heard about it from someone else or saw it on the news.
The exit ramp leading to the highway was as congested as it always was this time of day, so Rayne ignored that route and kept on driving, ending up in the lower income side of the city few tourists ever saw. Los Angeles, the city of Angels, was not so angelic here.
Disreputable business establishments gave way to weathered homes with shabby yards, some with garbage littering streets and lawns, and many with rusting cars sitting atop concrete blocks. It wasn’t a part of the city she knew well. She kept on driving and continued wiping at her nose until the leather seat on the other side of the console filled with bloody tissues.
Rayne kept her speed down and her eyes on the residential road as she reached for another tissue, only to feel the box was empty. She pinched her nose with her finger and thumb, and was nearly gasping for breath as she glanced over to see if there was a used one that wasn’t too saturated. When she looked back up, her breath hitched as an image jumped in front of the car.
Slamming on the breaks flung the used tissues, the empty box, and her purse from the passenger seat onto the floorboard. Her heart beating wildly, Rayne stared at the large ghost before her as its glittering essence mingling with the heat vapors radiating from the hood of her car. Panic turned to anger and finally to despair as she recognized the pesky ghost who made a habit of harassing her.

About JC:
JC Wardon is the author of the Mystic Waters Books, published through Turquoise Morning Press. As a lover of the paranormal romance, the psychological thriller, and the suspense of dangerous plots, all woven into one, JC creates stories that will curl your toes, and make your heart pound.

Her Cavanaugh Sisters Trilogy kicks off a thirteen-book series rollercoaster ride that will leave you captivated. Whether you’re titillated, tantalized, breathlessly horrified, or shocked to the core, JC’s books always conclude with a sneak peek into the next breathtaking trip.

As of this writing, seven of the thirteen Cavanaugh Series Books are in publication, with the remainder to come out over the next year. Though the trilogy: Mystic Thunder, Touch of Lightning, and Tempest’s Embrace novels must be read in order and in their entirety, to solve the two major quests the characters are burdened with, as well as set up the complicated foundation for the future Cavanaugh series novels, the remaining books can stand alone. However, each subsequent book’s characters build from the ones that came before. (They are a family, after all!)

Due to the time constraints of meeting publication deadlines, JC does not currently have a blog, but you can check out all her current and upcoming releases at: http://jcwardon.com where you are free to comment on your reading experience, or even ask questions.

SYTYCW!

What?
I know, you're probably thinking I spelled that wrong but I didn't. I swear! I know there is a show called SYTYCD, but I'm not talking about shaking your money maker. I'm talking about writing! Harlequin Romance is hosting a So You Think You Can Write contest and I've made the leap and entered my newest project, Dorm Room Goodies.

In fact, I've entered the Slush Pile again with this beauty!

But enough about me, let's talk writing, romance and Harlequin. Even if you've lived under a rock your entire life, at one point, you had to have heard of the H word. I mean, they are the Big Thing when it comes to kisses, sex, hand holding and all the good stuff in the sheets. Or against a tree! Heck, even my mystery lovin' grandmother had a copy or two with the familiar logo.

This is a great concept and I'm glad to participate. Heck, even making that jump is a big deal for me. I'm a bit of shy girl (no seriously) and putting myself out there makes me nervous. For the past 3 years, I've had the security of TMP when I submit new works where they have graciously opened their arms to me and my writing.

Anywho! If you are a writer, there is still some time to enter your submission. Check out the SYTYCW website to enter.

My Brother's Wedding is here!

Allison Daughtry is catapulted into a past life when she returns to her childhood home to attend her brother’s wedding. Bombarded with memories of a night she’d shared with Ryan Johnson, her reason for leaving and forever crush, she attempts to navigate her feelings while maintaining a fake romantic relationship with her best friend. Complicated emotions surface and Allison struggles to remember what’s real.

My Brother's Wedding is a contemporary sweet romance set in the Midwest. Follow Allison as she maneuvers her family and a long lost love. But watch out for the grandmother, she's a spitfire!

It's here! It's here! I'm so excited about this release. TMP was able to offer my new book as a pre-order but now she's alive and well (of course my book is a girl and like most females, she likes to be a caressed with your eyes!)

My Brother's Wedding is set in one of my favorite cities...St. Louis! So grab your toasted ravs, gooey butter cake and they's get our Lou on.

Here are your linkie poohs for this $2.99 DEAL:

King of the Lake.

The conclusion to my Honey Creek Royalty series is here. I'm a little sad to see the series end but thankful for the journey. Honey Creek holds a special place in my heart. I love writing stories about this little town and I hope to continue when times allows.

If you haven't stopped by Honey Creek, you don't know what your missing. So far, we have 11 books released within the last year from this line. Each one different with a common thread...the people of Honey Creek.

Thank you for being with me on this journey.

Living in a small town, everybody knows your business. Unfortunately for Allison Carver, some people can’t forget.
When a lapse in good judgment lands her in the public eye, her parents force her to seek guidance from the local minister. After several months, she begins to forgive herself while her parents seem to keep her mistakes front and center.
Allison escapes to Honey Creek Lake where she gets a waitressing job at Honey Creek Lodge’s restaurant. Lack of identity among the summer tourists offers relief, allowing her to feel normal. Taking the order of a summer guest launches her into a dilemma. Does she follow her heart and allow her feelings to mature for a guy she just met? Or risk the wrath of her father while he sits on his throne overlooking the lake.

NaNoWrimo begins in 7 days!

I love how the NaNoWrimo website has a counter reminding participants when it begins. Honestly, how could we forget.

Like last year, I'm participating. Yikes! I know. What am I thinking? Didn't I just have a baby? Am I not in the process of some major work for TMP? Have I lost my mind?

Absolutely yes to all questions.

I can't help it. There's something about signing up and committing myself to this event that motivates me. And this year, I've roped a good writer bestie into trying it again. *looks at Julie Anne Lindsey*

Whatever happened to my NaNo from last year, you ask. Well, nothing except it's gathering computer dust. But don't worry. I have plans for that novel that time hasn't allowed me to finish it up yet.

What's going to make this year different? Easy. I've signed a contract stating that I will have a finished manuscript that will be ready for edits next year. Double Yikes!

Never fear because I'm not. Unlike last year, I've outlined (gasps) this novel out which is something I never do. Ever!

But the main reason I'm jazzed to participate this year is because I love the creative process of writing. I love throwing my words to paper and seeing what happens and lately I haven't allowed myself any writing time. I've been busy editing books due out this year and next.

Oh yeah, and there was that pregnancy thing which sucked my creative juices!

Are you doing NaNo this year? If so, how are you feeling? Is it your first time? Or are you an old pro and can offer some tips for those of us still figuring it all out.

I'd love to hear from you. I also hope to keep you current on my progress. And sent me a message or leave me one and let us know how you're doing. After all, we could all use a little encouragement during those days in the middle when the end seems so far away.

Book Nibbles

Today on Book Nibbles, please welcome Secrets by Jan Scarbrough

Blurb:
How was she going to keep her secret? It had been with her like a living thing for twenty-one years.

With her daughter all grown up and married, single mom Kelly Baron can start her new life, responsible only for herself. But first she must help her mother by returning to the small Indiana town she’d fled years ago.

Newly divorced lawyer, Rob Scott, seeks solace in his small-town roots. The last thing he’s looking for is a relationship—until he runs into Kelly, and the secret she’s been keeping.

Interested?  Check it out on Amazon.

At only 138 pages, how could I not pick this up.  I really enjoy Jan's other works and I have to say   the idea of long lost love harboring a secret makes me wanna buy this novella now.  It looks to be a good, quick read and all the ratings I've seen have been at least 4 1/2 stars.  That's pretty good in my book.

The book was re-released with a new title and cover. But the reviews from the first run are wonderful.  When you check out the Amazon link, scroll down and you can read a review from Carole @ The Romance Reviews.

Happy Reading!

Funny Cards

Before I can tell you the funny, I have to tell you the sad.  Some of you may know my grandmother passed away in July.  She'd been diagnosised in June with Liver Cancer and battled barely a month.  Coincidentally, the day I took her to the ER with symptoms, I was offered a contract from TMP for my Honey Creek novella.  Yeah, it was one of those days.

Anyway, so I'm the oldest grandchild by 10 years and I was even listed as her POA.  Not fun but I needed to step up and be an adult because you see in my eyes, I was always a kid when it came to her.  She was more like my mother and bestfriend and to say I'm healed would be a lie.

So, we've been going through her things slowly, weeding out 85 years of stuff.  And let me tell you, she had some stuff.  While it's hard to throw some away, others not so much.  If you've every had to clean out a loved ones stuff after they've passed you might understand.  Some of it is was sad, like you can't stop crying and others are so funny, you almost feel bad for laughing.

My grandmother was very good about sending birthday cards.  And she took such care in picking out the perfect card.  She had two shoe boxes full of various cards from holiday, to get well to birthday.   I decided instead of throwing away the cards, I'll just add them to my dwindling collection and try to use them.

While going through the box, sorting out bad ones and trying to find evelops to others I came across a few particular cards that I think were intended for me.  The first one was Merry Christmas Granddaughter and it was covered in red and green glitter.  Very pretty and I'm sure I would've loved it.  The second was a Mother's Day card for a granddaughter.  It too had a glittery butterfly on the cover.  Grandma knew I loved a little sparkle.

I cried a bit at the cards and then looked up at my daughter, who is 10 and said, "I have the perfect card for your daughter when you get older, married and have kids.  We can all thank Grandma for doing some advanced shopping for me!"

We all had a good laugh and maybe it was a be there moment but I couldn't help but share it with you.  I miss her everyday but it's moments like this with the card that I really cherish the time we had.

Thanks.
